We have received your query dated 09/05/23, our response is as follows:
There are different types of vanilla extracts and vanilla flavoured foods including the processing structures such as cold processing, etc. Therefore, we cannot issue a general ruling on the permissibility or impermissibility of Vanilla extracts, essences or any other food item.
In order for us to issue a ruling, kindly specify the specific type of Vanilla Extract/ foods ingredient, extracts and the manufacturing company you are referring to.
With regards to rennet, if the rennet is obtained from Halaal Mazbooh animals, then it will be permissible to consume. However, if it is obtained from an animal which is not Mazbooh, then it should be abstained from especially when microbial (synthetic) rennet is readily available as an alternative and widely used nowadays. (Raddul Muhtaar vol 1. pg. 206)
Hadhrat Mufti Mahmood Saheb (rahimahullah) did not permit the consumption of rennet obtained from animals which are not Mazbooh. [Fataawa Mahmudiyyah Vol 12 pg 347]
Hadhrat Mufti Shafee Saheb (rahimahullah) also advised abstention from such rennet.
[Ma’aariful Quraan Vol 1 Pg 419]
In Ahsanul Fataawa [Vol 8 Pg 128] it is mentioned that bones are Paak, however, those parts of the Maytah (dead animal) which are Paak are not permissible to consume.
