Question
Assalamualykkum Wr Wb, Since I started taking responsibility for my own Qurban, I have always performed it at my local mosque back in the subcontinent. The community there consists mostly of affluent individuals, and numerous animals are sacrificed. About 6-7 years ago, a friend informed me about a destitute village in Bangladesh where only one cow was slaughtered. The people in that village are incredibly impoverished, and many of them have to wait for special occasions to have meat. This touched my heart, and I made the decision to redirect my Qurban to that village. For the past 6-7 years, a few friends and I have organized our Qurban directly through the elder brother of one of my friends. This ensures that all aspects of the Qurban are taken care of on-site. However, I have recently been hearing about the importance of performing Qurban locally here in Australia. I observe many brothers taking the time on Eid day to personally organize their Qurban, partake in its consumption, and distribute the meat among friends and neighbors. While I used to feel content knowing that my Qurban was reaching truly needy individuals, I am now somewhat conflicted about whether I am following the right approach. Therefore, I kindly request your advice on the best way to perform Qurban. Should I continue supporting the village in Bangladesh or personally carry out the Qurban here in Australia?

We have received your query regarding Qur’bani, our response is as follows:
It is permissible to send money overseas in order to fulfill ones Qur’bani, however it is best that a person makes Qur’bani with their own hands. If it is not possible for one to slaughter one’s own animal, then a person should try their best to be present at the blessed time of slaughter. One should try to eat from their own Qur’bani meat. Furthermore, a person should try to distribute the meat to ones neighbours, friends, family and the poor.
However, if there is some valid reason for one to send money overseas in order for ones Qur’bani to take place overseas, then one will also acquire the full reward inshallah, one may even acquire much more reward, however this all depends on his intention and if he adopts the correct method.[1]
And Allah Ta’ala knows best
