We have received your query regarding continuous bleeding, our response is as follows:
If blood continues to flow beyond the normal days of your habit and, when added to the days of your cycle, exceeds ten days, then the days beyond your normal habit will be regarded as days of Istihādah.
A woman experiencing continuous Istihādah to the extent that an entire Salah time passes without the bleeding stopping for long enough to perform Wudhu and offer Salah will be considered a Ma’dhur. A Ma’dhur should perform Wudhu as soon as the time for Salah begins. With that Wudhu, she may perform as many Fard and Nafl prayers as she wishes during that Salah time. However, as soon as the Salah time ends, the Wudhu is invalidated, and a new Wudhu must be performed for the next Salah time.
To continue being regarded as a Ma’dhur, the bleeding must occur at least once during each subsequent Salah time. If an entire Salah time passes without any bleeding occurring even once, then the person will no longer be considered a Ma’dhur.
On the other hand, if the bleeding does not exceed ten days, then the habit will be regarded as having changed. For example, if a woman normally has a habit of seven days each month, but in a particular month the bleeding continues for an additional two days before stopping, making a total of nine days, then her new habit will be considered nine days.[1]
If you require further clarification, please provide more information regarding the number of days in your cycle, the duration of the bleeding beyond your normal habit, and whether the bleeding stopped at any point in between. If it did, please specify for how long.
Regarding non-continuous bleeding, please refer to Answer 268 on the Darul Ifta website.
