We have received your query regarding Kaffarah, our response is as follows:

If a fast of Ramadan is broken by a mature sane person without a valid Shar’ee reason then one will need to make up the broken fast (Qadha) and also Kaffarah will be necessary i.e. two complete lunar months or sixty consecutive fasts with no interruption.

Feeding people for ones broken fast is only permitted if one is extremely ill and there is no hope of getting better or one is extremely old and cannot fast. If one does get better then the Fidyah will be cancelled, and one will need to make up the fasts.

In the case where one cannot fast, then one must feed sixty poor persons twice a day with a full meal or feed one person his fill morning and evening for sixty days. One may feed the poor person or give the poor person 1.6 kg of wheat or its value in cash.[1]

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
