Can one recite the 80 Duroods after Asr Salaah on Friday?

Your query has been received dating 14 October regarding the recitation of Durood eighty times after the Asr Salaah. Our response is as follows;
The following narration is mentioned in Daar Qutni on the authority of Abu Hurairah (Radiallaahu Anhu). Wherein Rasulullaah (Salallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whosoever recites this Durood
اللهمَّ صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدِ نِ النَّبِىِّ الْاُمِّىِّ وَعَلى الِه وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيْمًا
eighty times after Asr before standing up from his place, eighty years of his sins will be forgiven and the reward for eighty years of Ibaadah will be written for him”.
The above narration is also mentioned in Kitaabul Adhkaar of Allaamah Nawawi and in Al-Qawlul Badee’ of Allaamah Sakhaawi.
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (Rahimahullaah) mentions in his commentary of Kitaabul Adhkaar, Nataaijul Afkaar; that this Hadith is extremely weak. However, Allaamah Sakhaawi has mentioned some other narrations regarding the recitation of Durood eighty times on Friday without restricting it to after Asr.
Since it has been mentioned in a Hadith of Abu Dawood that
إِنَّ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ أَيَّامِكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَأَكْثِرُوا عَلَىَّ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ فِيه ‘
“The most virtuous day is the day of Jumu’ah, thus send Durood upon me abundantly on this day”
In addition to this some Ulama are of the opinion that the time after Asr is from amongst those times in which ones Dua’s (supplication) are readily accepted. Furthermore the practice of reciting the above Durood after Asr is such a act which was commonly practiced by some of our Ulama and Akaabereen such as Shaikul Hadeeth Maulana Muhammad Zakariya Rahimahullaah, the author of the widely accepted book Fazaail Aamaal. Therefore one should try ones best to recite the above Durood after the Friday Asr Salaah however it is not necessary nor obligatory.
