Question
Assalamualaikum, my question is if keeping a smart TV is permissible because keeping a normal TV isn’t allowed since it broadcasts and you cannot remove harm content on it but on a smart tv you can turn off broadcasting and use it with YouTube to watch content so would it be permissible in this case to own this device since you are in control of what you want to watch.

We have received your query regarding a smart TV, our response is as follows:
One should avoid keeping a smart TV. Watching animate images is not permissible. YouTube contains many harms, such as animate images, immodesty, music, time wastage, incorrect information on Islam (which the general masses cannot differentiate), adds etc. thus YouTube should be avoided at all cost. Knowledge of Deen should be acquired by sitting in the company of righteous Ulama.
