We have received your query regarding performing Salaah behind a Barelwi Imam, our response is as follows:
If an Imams beliefs are corrupt and of disbelief, then one should not perform Salaah behind such an Imam. On the other hand, if an Imams beliefs are correct, however he involves in Bid’at then it will be Makrooh Tahreemi (highly detestable) to perform Salaah behind such an Imam.
Thus we advise you to perform Salaah with Jamaat elsewhere rather than performing behind a person who is an innovator. If this is not possible (for example there is no other Masjid in your vicinity) then you should perform your Salaah behind such an Imam (as long as he does not possess incorrect beliefs) and the sin of his actions will be upon him.[1]
And Allah Ta’ala knows best
