Salam Mufti
I see your answering questions on Facebook page of Auckland Islamic trust so I would like to get some help in clearing some issues.
If a family member wants to buy a house on riba based system from the bank with the intention of renting to us and we say yes to staying in it paying less rent but helping to pay their loans as a rent , are we doing something haram ? My sibling said I will buy a house and pay me rent instead of someone else , I said okay to it . Have I don’t something wrong ? Or helped in anyway . We don’t own anything, we didn’t sign anything nor we have given any money towards it .

We have received your query dated 07/05/20, our response is as follows:
It is encouraging to hear that you are concerned with regards to your actions. This is a sign of your faith, may Allah Ta’ala increase you in this quality.
We have been prohibited by Shariah from assisting in evil and transgression. Allah Ta’ala commands us in the Noble Qur’aan:
وتعاونوا على البر والتقوى ولا تعاونوا على الاثم والعدوان
(مائدة س٥ اية ٢ )
Translation: “Help you one another in virtue and piety, and do not help one another in sin and transgression.”
Your sibling is taking out a Haraam loan from the bank because of you. You should not even indirectly assist them in this disastrous sin of Riba (interest).
Allah Ta’ala states in the Noble Qur’an:
فان لم تفعلوا فأذنوا بحرب من الله ورسوله
“And if you do not stay away from interest then listen to the announcement of war from Allah and his Rasul sallallahu alaihi wasallam.”
It is evident from your question that the fear of Allah Ta’ala is causing a disturbance and restlessness in your heart. Therefore, precaution demands that a person avoids any deed or pursuit which could even possibly lead to one’s destruction in this world or especially the hereafter.
Therefore, you should explain to your parents the harms of Riba (interest) and politely refuse their offer.
