Iddat of a women who’s husband passes away

Dear teacher I have a question,  1- how long will be the edait for a woman who lost (past a way)her husband?  2- during the edit time she can go her son or daughter house? Thank you so much

Dear Sister

We have received your query dated 27/10/21, our response is as follows:

1. The Iddat (waiting period) for a woman whose husband has passed away is four months and ten days in the case of a non-pregnant woman.^[1]

2. Until the above period does not expire, she cannot leave the confines of her home unless there is a Shar’ee necessity . ^[2]

^[1] (وإذا مات الرجل عن امرأته الحرة) دخل بها أولا، صغيرة كانت أو كبيرة، مسلمة أو كتابية، حاضت في المدة أو لم تحض، كما في خزانة المفتين (فعدتها أربعة أشهر وعشرة) أيام، لقوله تعالى {ويذرون أزواجاً يتربصن بأنفسهن أربعة أشهر وعشراً}
