Four Rakaats before Jumuah

Question

Is it authentic that the 4 rakah sunnah prayer before jumma fard prayer is not from sunnah? Is this true and If someone means in India majority people pray that salah, so are they doing a bi’dah?

We have received your query regarding the performance of four Rakaats before Jumuah Salaah, our response is as follows:

Performance of four Rakaats before Jumuah is proven in the Ahadeeth. It is not a Bid’ah. The following sound Hadeeth is found in Tabrani:

عن على رضي الله عنه قال : كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يصلى قبل الجمعة اربعا و بعدها اربعا الخ

Hadrat Ali Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu alai wa sallam would perform four Rakaats before Jumuah & four  rakaats after Jumuah (Tabrani).

There are other Ahadeeth as well which have a similar meaning to the above mentioned Hadeeth . (Refer to I’laus Sunan: Vol 7, Pg. 13)
