We have received your query regarding eating multiple dishes at one time, our response is as follows:
The blessed life of Rasulullah Sallallahu alai wa sallam is an exemplary lesson for all of us. Rasulullah Sallallahu alai wa sallams blessed life was a life of simplicity and beauty.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has placed a chapter in his Saheeh “The chapter of combining two colours or two foods at one occasion”.
Imam Nawawi rahimahullah states that we come to learn from such Ahadeeth that there is flexibility with regards to the consumption of different food items at one time. With relation to some Sahabah radiyallahu anhum differing on this issue and the opinion of undesirability, this is when a person becomes habitual in this without any Deeni reason. [1]It should also be noted that different food items does not refer to extravagant delicacies.
Therefore, there is permissibility in the above, however our aim and target should be to adopt simplicity as far as possible and avoid extravagance.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best
