Irregular bleeding

Question

(#268)

Country : New Zealand

Assalamu Alaikum, I have a question regarding the start of my menstruation. My period is expected to begin in about three days. Today I noticed that my liner remained clear, but when I wiped I saw clear discharge that had a small streak of blood in it. There is no continuous bleeding and nothing noticeable on the liner itself. In this situation, would this small streak of blood mixed with clear discharge be considered the start of my ḥayḍ, or should I wait until there is more consistent bleeding before considering my period to have begun? Jazakum Allahu khayran.

We have received your query regarding menstruation, our response is as follows:

If a woman bleeds for less than three days, then it is not necessary for her to bath. She should make Wudu and perform her Salaah at the end of the Mustahab (preferable) time. She is not permitted to leave out Salaah. If she started to bleed again within the ten days, then she must stop her Salaah. In the case of a Mu’tadah (a woman who has a fixed habit) she will be considered to be in Hayd up to her normal habit. After this she should take a bath and offer her Salaah. It is not necessary to have continuous bleeding. [1]
